Lake County Addendum Forum

16002 Mainframe Storage Area Network Upgrade

Addendum #1

December 17, 2015

Question:  Is there a specification for IOPs and/or sustained IO bandwidth?  If so, please provide.

Response:  No explicit specification, but at a minimum must match the capabilities of the DS6800

Question:  How many RackUnits are available for placement of the solution?

Response:  None, it was anticipated that the device would be self-contained.

Question:  The Invitation to Bid is silent with respect to data migration.  Are such services to be included as part of the “Implementation Services”?  If so:  Can you provide a list of all host system types, operating systems with versions and patch levels, and details about the sizes and connection protocols (FCP/FICON) related to each of the currently defined storage volumes?

Response:  Lake County will perform the data migration.   FCP and FICON are required.

Quesiton:  To which standard is Full Disk Encryption expected to comply?

Response:  Lake County does not intend on activating encryption even though FDE drives are being specified, which utilize symmetric encryption.

Question:  Is the term “Non-Standby CoD” indicative that Standby CoD is not desired?

Response:  Yes.

Question:  Are there any specifications or requirements for the following features:

a.       Volume Snapshot

b.      Volume Cloning

c.       Volume Replication

d.      External Storage Virtualization

Response:  For items a, b and c IBM FLASHCOPY is required.  For item d this is not required.

Question:  Is there a specification for drive occupancy? (relation of used to unused drive slots)

Response:  No.

Question:  Is there a specification for system availability (“seven nines”, e.g.)

Response:  Assuming that ‘seven nines’ is equivalent to 7x24x365, then YES

Question:  What is the projected start date and end date for implementation?

Response:  Start Date - Upon scheduled delivery, End Date – Shortly thereafter

Question:  Does the issuer intend for the statement that reads, “Total Bid Amount Items 1 thru 6” to read “Total Bid Amount Items 1 thru 5”?

Response:  No, Lake County wants to know if there is a separate cost associated with Warranty.

Question:  In order to ensure customer satisfaction, can you please confirm that implementation services as stated above are the services which typically include: installation, power-on, configure array, IP’s, addressing, initial RAID storage configurations, and Hot Spares?

Response:  There seems to be some overlap in what Lake County has itemized and what you consider to be implementation services.   All of the items listed above will be required, regardless of which item in the bid they refer to.

Question:  Are any of the 3390 devices to be migrated used by z/VM or z/Linux?

Response:  All devices will be used by z/VM and/or Linux on System z.  All will be configured CKD.

Question:  Is Lake County planning to connect a Main frame to the new DS 8870?

Response:  Yes.

Question:  What protocols do you require, FC, iSCSI, CIFS, NFS FICON or others?

Response:  FICON & FIBER

Question:  What servers operating systems will run on the servers that are going to connect to the DS 8870?

Response:  z/VM, z/VSE, z/Linux

Question:  How many servers and or main frames will be connected to the DS 8870?

Response:  1

Question:  What applications will you be running on the DS 8870?

Response:  In house applications – utilizing DB2, COBOL, CICS

Question:  Do you know the required throughput or IOPs for the DS 8870?

Response:  No.  But must be equivalent to or exceed the capabilities of the DS6800

Question:  Is the total amount of required storage on the new DS8870 4.6 TB?

Response:  Minimum required storage 4.6 TB - Yes

Question:  Is the total amount of memory that is required on the DS 8870 32GB

Response:  Minimum memory 32GB - Yes

Question:  Can you supply a copy of the DS6800 configuration, with number of drives and type of drives and with total amount of storage that will be traded in?

Response:  IBM DS6800 TotalStorage DS6800 Enterprise Disk Storage
