RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS FROM THE PREBID MEETING

Question 1.  Do any of the wells with Byron Jackson pumps have mercury seals? 

Response:  Yes, the submersible motors installed in Vernon Hills Wells #2 & #3 are the older Byron Jackson motors with mercury seals.  The Contractor is responsible for the proper handling and shipping of the motors to prevent the leakage of mercury from the motor seal chamber and will be liable for any environmental damage resulting from the release of mercury into the environment.  Comply with all applicable rules and regulations that apply to the handling and transportation of mercury.  Provide the Owner with a copy to the Chain of Custody Record extending to the mercury recycling location.  

Question 2.  Does the Owner have any shipping caps available for the Byron Jackson pumps?

Response:  No. 

Question 3.  Is the Contractor required to certify that the mercury was properly disposed of? 

Response:  No. Certification by the Contractor is not required.  The Contractor is responsible for the proper handling and shipping of the motors to prevent the leakage of mercury from the motor seal chamber and will be liable for any environmental damage resulting from the release of mercury into the environment.  Comply with all applicable rules and regulations that apply to the handling and transportation of mercury.  Provide the Owner with a copy to the Chain of Custody Record extending to the mercury recycling location. 

Question 4.  Does the above ground discharge piping remain or is it to be removed by the contractor? 

Response:  The above ground piping at Vernon Hills No. 2 and Wildwood No. 4 will remain.  Disconnect piping at the pump discharge upstream of the check valve and provide and install a blind flange on the piping to remain.  Provide a steel stand to properly support the weight of the piping to remain. 

Question 5.  Does the electrical equipment remain or is to be it removed by the Contractor?

Response:  Vernon Hills No. 2: Remove and dispose of the electrical power cable between the motor control panel and the well pump motor. Remove and dispose of the disconnect panel and any flexible cable conduit. Cut the steel conduits and panel support struts flush with the floor.  The motor control equipment is to remain.

Wildwood No. 4: Remove and dispose of the electrical power cable between the motor control panel and the well pump motor. Remove and dispose of the splice box and flexible cable conduit. The motor control equipment is to remain.

Vernon Hills No. 3 and Wildwood No. 8: Remove and dispose of the electrical power cable between the  motor and the motor control center in the control building.  The motor control equipment is to remain. Remove the conduit to a depth of two feet.

Question 6.  Will the contractor be responsible for paving over Vernon Hills well #3 after it’s been abandoned? 

Response:  No. Remove and dispose of the bollards protecting the pitless adaptor.  Fill the excavation made to cut off the pitless adaptor with compacted CA6 or CA9 gravel.  Finish with gravel surface flush with driveway surface.  Owner will repave the disturbed area at a later date.

Question 7.  Is Wildwood Well #4 an oil lubed pump?

Response:  Yes, it is an oil lubricated line shaft pump.

Question 8.  Can we utilize the adjacent property  at the Wildwood well site for access or laying out material? 

Response:  No. LCPW has no arrangements with adjacent property owners to utilize or access their property.

Question 9.  Can the access walls at Vernon Hills No. 2 and Wildwood No. 4 be removed to do the abandonment work?

Response:  Yes.  The Contractor will be responsible for reinstalling the access walls properly at the completion of the well work.
